The Overview
This project was carried out in collaboration with Kolding’s local Boccia club. The club is one of very few sports facilities in the town that includes people with disabilities. We worked with members of the club to build sports equipment and a team identity for them, helping them to feel more official and recognised.
The Team
On this project, we were a combination of two Communication, Runa Rossau and Camille De Boisfleury, along with two Industrial designers, Fiorenza Scarpa and I.

Our Design Question
How might we create a physical and digital space that promotes a feeling of belonging and increases the quality of connection within the Boccia club?

The Workshops
During our time at the club, we were able to meet 9 members who currently attend the Boccia sessions. The club has lower numbers of members but relies mostly on people personally recommending it to new people in the community.
With these members, we carried out workshops to find out what they need and want for the club.

The Scoreboard
The final output is a 30-point scoreboard, made of three different materials: MDF, acrylic and plywood. The black MDF creates the frame of the product, making it clearly visible in the club environment.
The scoreboard has two different inclinations to facilitate its use at different heights. The support leg can be folded closed when storing it after the Boccia session is finished or moved during tournaments and away games.

The Warm Up
During our workshops, we learned about how the new members are onboarded and taught the game of Boccia. To help this onboarding process, we created a teaching tool for the coach to easily show the optimal hand placements.

The Club Identity
One of the main challenges we set ourselves was to create an identity that accurately represented not only the club but the individual members within.

Implementation
In addition to building the identity of the club, we made a guide on how to implement all of the elements properly. This ensured that the club could use all of the elements in the best way possible.
